Foundation training

Exercises to be covered

• Social walking
• Manual handling and grooming skills- sit and stand.
• Name Game
• Introduction to focus work
• Introduction of the Positive Marker
• Sit
• Recall
• Stopping jumping
• Introduction to the down position
• Puppy socialisation, question and answer time

Pass requirements to move into Puppy School Level 2

• Can reliably Sit for 30 seconds until released
• Name recognition
• Puppy is relaxed whilst being handled
• Can walk on a loose lead for 30 seconds
• Can demonstrate correct technique for down position
• Puppy has an understanding of a release command

Putting it all together

Exercises to be covered

• Social walking- extending duration
• Proper use of equipment and fitting of corrective devices if needed.
• Introduction of a negative marker for bad behaviour
• Manual handling- Stand from basic position
• Sit- adding distraction
• Mat training
• Leave it- introduction to food refusal
• Improving focus/eye contact
• Recall
• Social exercises, sitting and remaining calm whilst meeting other dogs
• Down position- phasing out body language
• Using variable reinforcement and introduce different types of rewards
• Small Q&A at the end of each class and trick or agility

Pass requirements to move into Puppy School Level 3

• Can reliably Sit for 60 seconds until released
• Can stay on mat for 30 seconds until released
• Walk on a loose lead for 60 seconds
• Can demonstrate a correction if and when needed.
• Dog performs exercises on variable reinforcement
• Recall from full length of lead
• Can hold a drop and or down position for 30 seconds

Intermediate obedience training
