Our puppy classes are designed to train both you and your puppy!
Our mission is to help your pup build strong foundations and create a lifelong bond between dog and owner.
Every class includes our Super Pups program, focusing on the essential skills your puppy needs to grow into a confident, well-behaved companion:
- Good Manners at Home – Learn how to prevent unwanted behaviours and create calm routines.
- Family-Friendly Skills – Teach your puppy to interact appropriately with all family members.

Everything you need for success in your puppy’s first months!
Our classes are designed to give you a clear training roadmap. With four levels to graduate through, you’ll always know what to work on next.
- You’ll begin in the Puppy Introduction Class with head trainer Chris.
- You’ll stay in this class for four weeks before progressing based on your puppy’s development.
- Classes are structured to suit your level, progress, and your dog’s individual needs.
- Multiple trainers are present to ensure every handler gets one-on-one support.
We prioritise building calm, confident puppies who can handle real-world situations. Our socialisation exercises expose your puppy to other dogs and people in a safe, controlled way.
We’re here for you every step of the way. Our team is always available to answer questions and provide guidance both during and outside of class time.
Puppy School Curriculum
You and your puppy will progress through three levels of puppy school:
Intro
- Sit – process and duration
- Down – process and duration
- Name Game – build reliable attention
- Manual Handling – for stress-free vet checks
- Recall – the foundations of coming when called
- Social Walking – start learning to walk nicely on lead
- Stopping Jumping – teaching polite ways to ask
- Socialisation Exercises – calm, confident interaction with other puppies
- Mat Training: Teaching your puppy to go to their bed and stay calmly.
- Markers: Introduction to positive reinforcement markers to clearly communicate success.
- Q&A Time – ask questions and address concerns

In Puppy Two, we build on the foundations from Puppy One and introduce more focus, duration, and distractions.
- Sit: Stay in position while you move away and with distractions around.
- Down: Stay in a down for a period of time, increasing calmness and control.
- Manual Handling: Comfort with vet checks and being gently guided into sit and stand positions.
- Recall: Coming when called with mild distractions and using different reward types.
- Mat Training: Teaching your puppy to go to their bed and stay calmly.
- Leave It: Learning not to touch or pick up various items.
- Social Walking: Extending the time walking nicely beside you with more distractions.
- Equipment: Proper use and fitting of alternative training gear if needed.
- Markers: Introduction to positive reinforcement markers to clearly communicate success.
- Focus & Engagement: Building your puppy’s willingness to work and interact with you.
- Socialisation: Continued development of calm and appropriate social behaviours.
- Tricks & Q&A: Fun exercises and time to address individual questions.
Puppy Three focuses on reliability, control, and preparing your puppy for real-world situations with higher levels of distraction.
- Sit: Increase duration, distance, and distractions to build rock-solid reliability.
- Down: Continue building calmness and control under more challenging conditions.
- Stand: Teach your puppy to stand on command and hold position until released.
- Recall: Strengthen coming when called, even at a distance or with distractions.
- Formal Recall: Teach your puppy to return and sit neatly in front of you.
- Mat Training: Stay calmly on their bed despite surrounding distractions — a skill for home and public spaces.
- Leave It: Proof against a variety of tempting items.
- Social Walking: Maintain a loose lead and consistent position by your side.
- Heeling: Build on the foundations of a formal heel.
- Socialisation: Further develop calm and confident social behaviour.
- Focus & Engagement: Keep your puppy eager to interact and work with you.
- Q&A: Address individual challenges and refine your training skills.
Positive Puppy School classes are held at Reservoir Reserve, Grange Rd, Kew on Sunday mornings from 8.00am.
Enrolment is $125 – each Casual Class is $40.
Block of 5 classes can be purchased for $150.

Puppy Intro & Puppy One
Sit – teaching the process and building the duration.
Down – teaching the process and building the duration.
Name game – to reliably listen and pay attention when he hears his name.
Manual handling – to be comfortable with vet checks.
Recall – the beginning of learning to come when called.
Social walking – the foundations of learning to walk nicely beside you on a lead.
Stopping jumping – teaching the puppy how to appropriately ask for things by sitting.
Socialisation exercises – learning to be calm and confident around other puppies.
Question and answer time – opportunity to ask questions and address any concerns.
Puppy Two
Sit – teaching the puppy to stay in the sit for a period of time, while you move away and while distractions are happening around him.
Down – teaching the puppy to stay in a down for a period of time.
Manual handling – ensuring your puppy is comfortable with vet checks and being gently guided into a sit and stand position.
Recall – learning to come when called with some distraction and introducing various rewards for this.
Mat training – teaching your puppy to go to their bed and to calmly stay there.
Leave it – not to touch various items.
Social walking – building the time your puppy can nicely walk beside you, with increased distractions.
Heeling – learning the foundations of a formal heel.
Proper use of equipment and fitting alternative equipment if needed.
Introduction to positive reinforcement marker to communicate to your puppy when they have done the correct behaviour and earned a reward.
Focus and engagement exercises to build your puppies willingness to work and interact with you.
Socialisation exercises to develop your puppies social behaviour.
Tricks and Questions and Answers.
Puppy Three
Sit – continue to build the duration, distance and distraction of the sit to build reliability.
Down – continue to build the duration, distance and distraction of the down to build reliability.
Stand – introduce teaching your puppy to ‘stand’ on command and stay here until released.
Recall – teaching your puppy to come back when called with distraction and when they are a distance away.
Formal recall – teach your puppy to sit nicely in front of you at the end of a recall.
Mat training – to learn to stay on their bed calmly when distractions are around. Handy to apply at home in various situations.
Leave it – proofing not to touch a variety of items.
Social walking – teaching your puppy to stay by your side and on a loose lead at all times.
Heeling – continuing to work on the foundations of heeling.
Socialisation exercises – continuing to build on your dog’s social skills.
Focus and engagement exercises to keep your dog pushing you for more!
